La cura contra el VIH puede que esté muy cerca…
Hace algunas horas, se publicó la noticia de que científicos españoles lograron que cinco personas con VIH fueran sometidas a un trasplante de células madre para una investigación.
Afortunadamente, el Colegio de Médicos Estadounidenses Annals of Internal Medicine, detento que gracias al trasplante el VIH podría haber sido eliminado de su cuerpo.
«Los buenos resultados que hemos obtenido no quieren decir que se hayan curado, sino que por el momento no podemos detectar el reservorio viral», aclaró al periódico español La Vanguardia Javier Martínez-Picado, investigador del instituto IrsiCaixa.
«Este hecho podría ser una prueba de que el VIH ya no está en su sangre, pero esto solo se puede confirmar parando el tratamiento y comprobando si el virus reaparece o no», agregaron los especialistas.
¿Qué es el VIH indetectable?
La cantidad de virus en sangre se mide en “copias de VIH por mililitro de sangre”. Actualmente los análisis pueden llegar a detectar a partir de las 20 copias por mililitro. Se considera que una persona es indetectable cuando presenta menos de 50 copias por mililitro.
